                              Dan Brunette, Secretary, 715-362-5253

Organization: Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club

The Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club is pleased to announce that they wish to pay tribute to Elaine Bassett with naming the annual Kiwanis scholarship award in her memory.  The “Elaine Bassett Memorial Scholarship” will go to students that are furthering their education in areas which will serve and benefit children.

The Kiwanis Club is “a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time”.  The local Kiwanis Club of which Elaine was a founding member, has dedicated its time and energy to helping children in the area through supporting various activities and groups with donations, i.e.:  Head Start, Lakeland Sharing, ILI, Junior Achievement, Camp Jorn, the Lakeland Hawks, Camp Manitowish, the Northwood’s Dental Project, the Wildlife Center’s classroom visits in the schools and Builders’ Club to name a few.

Elaine was a catalyst within the club and her insight and wisdom inspired us all.  Her belief that children are our future has often inspired us to realize the importance of their development and our role in helping them locally.  It seems only fitting that the annual scholarship award be named in honor of her memory since it will help the children she so dearly loved.

Elaine has touched many lives within this community, so if anyone or any business would like to contribute in her memory to the “Elaine Bassett Memorial Scholarship Fund”, the Kiwanis Club will graciously accept donations. Several deposits have already been received so the Kiwanis Club has set up a special account at Citizens Bank.  Checks for contributions can be made out to “Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, f/b/o Elaine Bassett Memorial Scholarship Fund and mailed to the Kiwanis Club at PO Box 1182, Minocqua, WI, 54548 or dropped off at any local branch of Citizens Bank.

PRESS RELEASE

Subject: Pediatric Bag donation

Organizations: Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club
General Federation of Women’s Club – Rhinelander

The Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club, in partnering with the General Federation of Women’s Club – Rhinelander, has provided $1500 toward the purchase of 3 pediatric bags that will be placed in 3 ambulance departments in Vilas County.

The GFWC has accepted the challenge to provide all ambulance services in the state of Wisconsin with pediatric bags. The pediatric bags provide ambulance services the necessary specialized equipment to deal with small children and frail adults. With all ambulances being supplied, there is also the benefit of compatibility and standardization between co-responding departments. This project has been awarded national commendations and GFWC's highest honor - Community Improvement Award.

These are the first 3 pediatric bags for Vilas County and they will be placed in the Conover, Presque Isle and Lac Du Flambeau ambulance departments. The GFWC will use this opportunity to help raise awareness of the program, so that all 18 ambulances in Vilas County will soon have this valuable tool to help save the lives of children and frail adults.

Kevin Schlosser, the Oneida County EMS Coordinator, will be in charge of ordering the bags and getting them to the ambulance units in Vilas County. As Kevin says, we all hope they never get used, but if they do, at least the ambulance services can be prepared.

Local Kiwanis clubs and other organizations are being asked to support the GFWC though donations to help them reach their goal. If you are interested in more information or to donate to this project, please contact Lynda Lukowski at 715 369-7959 or valynda@charter.net.
